Low-Pressure CO₂ Fire Extinguishing System

Product Category:Fire Fighting System

Low-pressure CO₂ systems are designed for fire protection of large machinery spaces and cargo holds that require carbon dioxide fire suppression.Compared with traditional high-pressure cylinder solutions, the core advantage of this low-pressure system is that a single storage tank can replace a large quantity of high-pressure CO₂ cylinders, reducing the overall equipment weight by approximately 50%. The storage tank, main valves, distribution valves, refrigeration equipment, cooling units and matching control components are all pre-assembled and pre-wired, integrally mounted on an integrated steel base frame for direct on-site installation upon delivery.
An electronic level gauge is equipped to display the real-time tonnage of CO₂ stored inside the tank intuitively. The gauge is fitted with low-level alarm contacts to automatically trigger warnings when the remaining fire suppressant in the tank is insufficient. Refilling after discharge is convenient, as the tank can be directly recharged via a tanker truck.
For large vessel projects, the overall installation cost of a low-pressure CO₂ system is far lower than that of a high-pressure cylinder-type system. Furthermore, the whole system is engineered to fully comply with the standards and requirements of the classification society the vessel is constructed to meet.
  • Storage Tank

The tank is manufactured as a steel pressure vessel in strict accordance with classification society construction codes. It is fitted with two safety valves connected to a three-way changeover valve. When one safety valve is out of service, the other remains connected to the tank to provide continuous overpressure protection.

The complete tank unit is delivered fully finished and ready for commissioning, mounted on a rectangular steel base frame and secured by thermally insulated supports. The tank is insulated with non-combustible polyurethane foam, covered with an aluminium protective cladding on the exterior.

    Cooling Units

Cooling units are mounted on the support frame at one end of the tank, featuring full mechanical and electrical redundancy for standby operation. Environmentally friendly refrigerant is adopted for the units. The cooling circuits of compressors and condensers support two cooling modes: fresh water cooling and air cooling.

The system maintains CO₂ at a constant temperature of -18°C, corresponding to a storage pressure of 2.1 MPa for carbon dioxide.

    CO₂ Level Monitoring

A capacitance-type electric liquid level gauge is installed and fully calibrated before delivery. The indicator achieves a measuring accuracy of ±2% and is equipped with an alarm switch to signal the minimum filling level.

    Control Assembly

A pre-wired operation panel is installed on the support frame at the tank end. It integrates all control components and overload relays for cooling units, tank pressure monitors, level indicators, as well as various status and warning indicator lamps. The panel is fully watertight and fitted with cable glands for cable penetration.
